Clear Braces Center City PAWhat are Clear Braces?

It used to be that in order to achieve the perfect smile the only option was traditional metal braces. Now, however, there are many different alternatives which are less noticeable and more comfortable. One is clear braces, ceramic braces which are similar to metal braces except the brackets are clear. Dr. Farrow of Dr. Anthony Farrow Orthodontics in Center City, PA is here with some more details about clear braces and to help figure out if they are the perfect alternative for you. Here are the advantages to clear braces:
  1. They are clear! Clear braces are just like traditional braces except their brackets are clear. This means that they are not as bright and noticeable as traditional metal braces are. However, they are more noticeable then Invisalign because of the wires. Even so, clear ceramic braces still appear clear to outside people and some might not even notice you are straightening your teeth. Being semi-invisible also strengthens a patients confidence because they are not worrying about others staring at their braces. Especially for teens and adults, confidence is boosted with clear braces and there is no worry about speaking in front of others or taking pictures because your braces will not be the center of attention.
  2. Work as well as traditional metal braces and faster than Invisalign. To add to the plus of clear braces, they straighten teeth just as fast as traditional metal braces. Because they use the same techniques, clear braces straighten teeth and create perfect smiles at the same rate as metal braces. Clear braces are also faster than Invisalign treatments are and require less trips to the orthodontist.
Here are the disadvantages to clear braces:
  1. They are more expensive than traditional metal braces. For the added bonus of being clear, clear braces cost more than traditional metal braces. However, Dr. Farrow can work out individual payment plans so that each patient receives their dream smile.
  2. They can become discolored easily. Just like traditional metal braces, clear braces may discolor teeth if they are not properly taken care of. The area not being covered by the bracket may turn a different color if you are not brushing your teeth, flossing, and taking care of your overall oral health. One way to avoid discoloration is to brush your teeth twice a day at a minimum, floss daily, and stay away from dark foods and drinks which have tendencies to stain teeth. Another disadvantage specific to clear braces is that the braces themselves may stain. Clear ceramic braces are made to match the color of your teeth. However, if you consume dark colored foods or drinks which stain teeth, your clear braces may become stained as well.
While clear braces do have some disadvantages, these disadvantages can be avoided through the simple acts of talking to Dr. Farrow and brushing your teeth daily. With clear braces, you also have the advantages of them being clear which allows you to be confident and happy with your smile during and after treatment. Dr. Farrow of Dr. Anthony Farrow Orthodontics wants to make sure you choose the right type of orthodontic treatment plan for you, which might include clear braces.
