As a way to avoid the pop-up orthodontic emergency care convention the week following Halloween, Dr. Anthony Farrow of Farrow Orthodontics in Philadelphia, PA has listed 10 braces-friendly Halloween candies below.
York Peppermint Pattie
Three Musketeers Candy Bar
Milky Way Candy Bar
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate Bar
Hershey’s Kisses
Sweet Tarts
Plain M&M’s
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Kit Kat Bars
Toothbrush (OK this is not candy, but it is braces-friendly!)
Dr. Farrow reminds that sticky, chewy candies can pull and bend the wire of your braces and if the wire is bent between two teeth it can cause unwanted tooth movement, and sometimes pokey wires can occur if the wire snaps in the back. Sticky and chewy candies can even break the brackets of your braces off, and altogether, lengthen your treatment. Here’s 10 Halloween candies Dr. Farrow says to avoid:
Caramels
Bubblegum
Laffy Taffy
Licorice
Jelly Beans
Candy Corn
Popcorn
Candy Apples
PayDay Candy Bar
Snickers Candy Bar
