Are my teeth worth it?

Yesterday I went to the dentist for my regular check-up. I also inquired about my options for orthodontics, because the past 3 dentists I’ve been to have suggested that it would be a good option for me – not only to straighten my teeth, but also to prevent problems in the future. I’m kind of borderline though; my teeth aren’t that bad. Looking at my teeth, you probably wouldn’t think I’d need braces. But, I know it is in my best interest to get it done in order to keep my mouth healthy. My teeth are kind of crowded in places and I absolutely know that it is going to cause me problems in the future with my gums.

So, my dentist told me to contact Dr. Anthony Farrow and that he offers a line called Invisalign braces and that he takes on a lot of adult patients. So, in the next few weeks I’ll book myself in for a consultation. It’s a big decision, not only for my wallet, but it’s something I’ll have to live with for a minimum of 2 years. Oh, and if you’re wondering, metal/traditional braces are just not going to be an option for me. I would much rather pay a bit more for the freedom of Invisalign. And that’s just a personal choice I’ve always known I would make if it came down to it.

I know that it’s something I should want to do ( I’ve actually been thinking about it for a few years ), and that money shouldn’t be a factor when my teeth and my health are concerned. But, let’s be honest. Money plays a factor into every purchase we make – especially a purchase like this. I’m extremely hesitant, but then I look at my decision to get $3,000 LASIK eye surgery , and that was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. But at least with LASIK, then down time was minimal and I was good to go after just a few weeks. Having braces will mean at least 2 years of wear, plus years after that of wearing a retainer.

Sigh. Adult braces. It’s a lot to think about. But getting orthodontics is something I’m eventually going to want to do in my life, the sooner I get it done, the better.

So, 2 months later and I did end up getting braces. Dr. Farrow seems confident and my treatment doesn’t seem to be as bad or as long as I thought.
